Conferences and Events

In support of AFHSC's role as the primary DoD proponent for health surveillance and epidemiologic training, staff members supervise and mentor preventive medicine residents during their rotations at AFHSC, provide subject-matter expertise to military public health events and exercises, and plan and execute conferences and for a in support of AFHSC's overall mission. Additionally, AFHSC directly supports the six US Geographic Combatant Commands (COCOMs) in meeting their global strategic engagements.

  • AFHSC sponsors and hosts training events each year in conjunction with various DoD stakeholders.
  • Topics relevant to US military public health include public health surveillance, malaria, pandemic influenza, and recruit health.
  • Formats range from conferences, workshops and tabletop exercises to roundtable discussions and working group meetings.

Combatant Command Engagements
  • Partnering with the 6 COCOMs and the Center for Disaster & Humanitarian Assistance (CDHAM), AFHSC sponsors and co-hosts a number of global health engagements, conferences, workshops and tabletop exercises each year.
  • Goals include promoting regional interoperability and enhancing partner nation capability to plan, detect and respond to public health emergencies, with particular focus on complying with the World Health Organization's International Health Regulations (2005).
  • Focus on sharing priorities, successes, challenges, and lessons learned from past public health emergencies or disasters as well as enhancing planning for and surveillance of emerging infectious diseases.
